Christmas is officially over BUT...I thought this would be something to share with everyone to take into consideration for next year! If you are like me I always thought that having a fake Christmas tree would be better for the environment. I mean....you're not killing trees and you reuse it every year right?? Well I was WRONG. The answer is REAL trees are better. Who would have thought?
Although real trees are cut down each year and used temporarily, tree farms keep land forested that might otherwise be barren. Real trees can also be recycled into mulch or biomass fuel by your city.
Fake trees are reusable but they are made out of PVC vinyl which emits toxic fumes when being manufactured. Also about 85% of fake treees are transported thousands of miles from Asia and take up space in landfills after disposal. There goes reducing your carbon footprint. So if you need to throw away that fake tree this year how about freecycling it instead. I'm sure there are plenty of people that would love to have a tree that maybe otherwise couldn't afford one. Visit www.texaschristmastrees.com to find a local grower and have a very MERRY ECOLOGICAL Christmas next year!
